Sanger Farm & Bakery is on Lockport Road in Youngstown. It was Joe's first time reviewing pizza from a farm, and having grown up on one, he loved the idea.
The order
Joe ordered a large 16-inch cheese pepperoni for $18.36. It's thick, with cup and char, and looked like something his mom might make on the farm.
First bite
A thick, soft, pillowy crust with nice browning underneath. Right away, Joe felt the first improvement: when it's this thick, it needs more sauce.
Crust, sauce, cheese and toppings
- Crust: Fantastic. A big bakery-style crust with nice flavor.
- Sauce: Not enough of it for a crust this thick. The saucy bite had the best ratio.
- Cheese: Good, maybe a little more.
- Pepperoni: Cup and char with nice flavor.
What would make it better
More sauce. Joe says with more sauce, this one would easily be in the eights.
The verdict
It's a nice pizza with a great crust. Joe gave Sanger Farm & Bakery a 7.9, then headed inside for a cherry pie made with cherries grown on the farm.
