Crosby's Review – West Seneca, NY
score
Crosby's is a gas station on Seneca Street, and people kept telling Joe it has the best gas station pizza around.
The order
Joe ordered a large 16-inch cheese pepperoni for $19.20. When he ordered, they asked if he wanted cup and char or lay flat. Joe called that great customer service. Of course he went with cup and char.
First bite
There's a whole bunch of cup and char, with cheese going out to the edge. Joe got crispy bites off the pepperoni right away, but it's definitely a soft slice. He guessed it was made in a conveyor oven.
Crust, sauce, cheese and toppings
- Pepperoni: Great. Basically cooked to perfection. Joe says if you think that's burnt, you probably haven't tasted it.
- Crust: Soft. Joe liked the pepperoni better than the crust.
- Sauce: Not a ton of it.
- Cheese: Joe remembers the cheese at the Delta Sonic Brick Oven being better.
What would make it better
A firmer crust. But if people like this style, Joe wouldn't change a thing.
The meatball pizza
Joe went back for a large 16-inch meatball pizza at $21.74. There are a lot of meatballs on it, and they're not terrible, but Joe has definitely had better. The crust was really soft and doughy, and the sauce didn't stand out. He'd change the meatballs, cook the crust more and change the sauce. A worker told him the Philly steak pizza is good, so that might be a better pick.
The verdict
It's not bad and it's not great, but it's great value. Joe gave the cheese pepperoni a 6.8.
Ranking note: Best Pizza Buffalo ranks every pizzeria by Joe’s score for a standard pizza, so Crosby's is listed at 6.8.
