The Penalty Box Review – Lockport, NY
score
The Penalty Box is on Chestnut Street in Lockport. With a Zamboni behind him, Joe said he felt like he was in Canada.
The order
Joe ordered a large 16-inch cheese pepperoni for $18.89. It looked thick, a little light on the cup and char, and Joe could smell the garlic butter. The pepperoni was nicely charred for how thick the pie was. The cut was money.
First bite
Joe lost most of the cheese off his first slice, about three quarters of it. Underneath was medium browning, and it looked like it was done on a screen. At first all he could taste was cheese, and then the garlic, like garlic bread.
Crust, sauce, cheese and toppings
- Garlic: Joe went back and forth. On the back bite it worked, and on the inside it felt like it was fighting the other flavors. He'd maybe put it just on the outside.
- Sauce: Mellow but herby, with even more herb than tomato.
- Cheese: Fantastic and really delicious. Super heavy, which Joe said is cool.
- Pepperoni: Light on the pepperoni.
What would make it better
Balance out the ratios. More pepperoni and a little less of the garlic.
The verdict
There are a lot of good things going on here, they just need balance. Joe gave it a 7.5, then went to jump on the Zamboni.
