Pie O Mine is on Southwestern Boulevard in Orchard Park, just outside of Buffalo. A viewer named John recommended it on review.pizza. Joe had tried Pie O Mine before at another location and remembered liking it.
The order
Joe ordered a large 18-inch cheese pepperoni for $21.74. It had lay flat pepperoni, not cup and char, and looked nice, cheesy and saucy, with a little bubble.
First bite
Brick oven style with medium browning. The first bite brought an avalanche of cheese, and it was delicious. Joe tasted a little garlic too.
Crust, sauce, cheese and toppings
- Crust: The back was softer than Joe hoped. It's more of a crust that would be good with a dipping sauce. He wasn't sure if the dusting underneath was semolina or cornmeal.
- Sauce: Nice and flavorful, with some herbs shining through.
- Pepperoni: Good flavor. Even though it's not cup and char, it complements the pizza well.
- Inside: The combination of sauce, cheese, pepperoni and crust on the inside is really good. Joe called it money.
What would make it better
If the crust matched the flavors of the rest of the recipe, Joe said this would be in the mid eights or higher.
The verdict
The back bite kept it out of the eights. Joe gave Pie O Mine a 7.9.
