The Original Pizza Shack is in the Wheatfield area, near Niagara Falls. When Joe ordered on the phone, they asked if he wanted lay flats or cup and char.
The order
Joe ordered an 18-inch cheese pepperoni for $24.84, with cup and char, obviously.
First bite
A nice cheese pull and some crisp off the cup and char. The crust is medium, flirting with thick, and it's super cheesy.
Crust, sauce, cheese and toppings
- Crust: Soft, almost flirting with bakery style. The outside crust tastes great.
- Sauce: A nice amount, with herbs. Joe guessed oregano or basil.
- Cheese: Super cheesy.
- Pepperoni: Joe likes how they're cooked. He calls it charred, not burnt.
What would make it better
The inside of the pie screams Buffalo. If the toppings were pushed all the way to the outside, it would do even better.
The four cheese pizza
Joe went back for an 18-inch four cheese pizza with mozzarella, cheddar, parmesan and Monterey Jack, plus some seasoning on top. It was the same $24.84 as the cheese pepperoni. The ratio of sauce to cheese was great, and Joe called it almost a super cheesy cheese bread with tomato sauce. It was a little light on the cook. He liked the cup and char better, but it's a solid pick for kids or anyone skipping pepperoni.
The verdict
It's a solid pie, and Joe gave it an 8.4.
