Mustachio's Pizzeria Review – Buffalo, NY
score
Mustachio's Pizzeria sits on Elmwood Avenue near the Kenmore line, and it's one of the spots that showed Pizza Review Joe just how seriously Buffalo takes its pizza.
The order
Joe ordered a large cheese pepperoni for $23.34. The box folds into a set of football goalposts, which is about as Buffalo as packaging gets. Like a lot of places in town, Mustachio's puts cup and char pepperoni on without being asked.
First bite
It's a thicker, saucy, cheesy pie, the kind of greasy wheel that will fill you up when you're hungry. Joe lost a bunch of cheese on the first pull, then got it back on a crunchy bite at the end.
Crust, sauce, cheese and toppings
- Crust: A little on the thick side with a great crunch on the back. The back crust was a highlight.
- Sauce: A mellow sauce that doesn't overpower anything. Joe really liked it.
- Cheese: Salted nicely without being too salty.
- Pepperoni: Cup and char, but missing some of the spice of Joe's favorite brand.
What would make it better
Joe would have liked just a touch more cook underneath, and a spicier cup and char pepperoni would have kicked the score up.
The verdict
Mustachio's makes a special pizza. Joe called it delicious and gave it a solid 8.6. These Buffalonians know how to make their pizza.
