Mister Pizza Elmwood Review – Buffalo, NY
score
Mister Pizza is on Elmwood Avenue in Buffalo. Joe came because a viewer recommended it on review.pizza.
The order
Joe ordered a large 16-inch pizza for $26.15. It came tavern cut, saucy and cheesy, with a nice amount of pepperoni. The cut was good.
First bite
There's an interesting pattern on the browning underneath, and a nice crispy bottom. The crust is crunchy on the bottom and fluffy inside, with just a touch of gumminess.
Crust, sauce, cheese and toppings
- Crust: Medium thickness, almost getting thick. Joe liked the crunchy bites on the back.
- Sauce: Needs more for a crust this thick.
- Cheese: Good flavor, but some spots could use more.
- Pepperoni: Standard, good cup and char. Could use a little more charring.
What would make it better
More sauce and more cheese would get this into the eights. Joe also prefers a triangle cut to tavern, though tavern is great for sharing.
Going back for the steak pizza
When Joe asked what to try, they suggested a steak pizza with the works, including hot peppers. The 16-inch was $30.70 and came tavern cut again, with green peppers, red peppers, onion and steak. There's no tomato sauce, and Joe never quite figured out the yellowish sauce. Each bite had freshness from the green peppers, spice from the hot peppers, some creaminess and steak. The steak is sliced thin, and all the ingredients together are what make it work. The distribution was better than on the cheese pepperoni.
The verdict
The cheese pepperoni has good flavors and gets a 7.9. The steak pizza was the winner at 8.5, and Joe would come back for it.
Ranking note: Best Pizza Buffalo ranks every pizzeria by Joe’s score for a standard pizza, so Mister Pizza Elmwood is listed at 7.9.
