Marco's Italian Restaurant Review – Buffalo, NY
score
Marco's Italian Restaurant is on Niagara Street in Buffalo.
The order
Joe ordered a large 16-inch cheese pepperoni for $23.78, and he says it would have been cheaper paying cash. It came tavern cut and looked a little light on the pepperoni. Joe was about 15 minutes late picking it up.
First bite
It's a thick crust. Joe called it bakery style pizza meets Buffalo.
Crust, sauce, cheese and toppings
- Crust: Solid. Joe liked its flavor a lot.
- Sauce: Really nice flavor.
- Cheese: Solid, but a little light.
- Pepperoni: Good, but Joe wanted more.
What would make it better
More cheese and pepperoni. And if Joe had been on time and the pizza was hotter, it might have been a little better.
The verde formaggio pizza
Marco's also does 12-inch artisan pizzas, so Joe went back for the verde formaggio at $19.22. It's a bianca pizza with no tomato sauce, topped with arugula, parmesan, lemon zest and ricotta. Joe called the lemon zest fantastic and said it's a fresh tasting pizza. The crust is really good, and he didn't miss the tomato sauce at all. He'd want a little more seasoning and saltiness from the parm, and a fancy extra virgin olive oil on top could push it into the nines.
The verdict
It's not what Joe pictures for Buffalo pizza, but it's a solid zaza for 23 bucks. He gave it a nice round 8.0.
Ranking note: Best Pizza Buffalo ranks every pizzeria by Joe’s score for a standard pizza, so Marco's Italian Restaurant is listed at 8.0.
