Lock 34 Bar & Grill Review – Lockport, NY
score
Lock 34 Bar & Grill is on Main Street in Lockport. It looked like the pizza was done in a gas brick oven.
The order
There's one size, a 12-inch, and Joe paid $8.64. Stroke of luck: it was happy hour, between 3 and 6, and he got 50 percent off. Normally it would be double. It's a little guy, with what looked like parmesan sprinkled over the cup and char. The cut needed help, and Joe lost his first slice and had to grab a different one.
First bite
Nice leoparding and a little darkness underneath. Joe got all the cheese in one bite, but he could still taste the sauce.
Crust, sauce, cheese and toppings
- Crust: Thin and solid for a gas brick oven. Joe was looking for a little more char flavor, which he figured comes from wood. This is where the pizza could improve.
- Sauce: Nice and mellow, with the tomato as the shining star. A change up for Lockport. Joe joked he didn't see a dentist's office on the street, probably because there's less sugar in the sauce.
- Cheese: Good. The parmesan gives it a little more salty flavor.
- Pepperoni: Good flavor.
What would make it better
Improvements to the crust would push it higher into the eights.
The verdict
The cheese, pepperoni and sauce are fantastic, and it's hard to go wrong with them. Joe gave it an 8.0 on the button.
