Leo's Pizzeria Review – Lancaster, NY
score
Leo's Pizzeria sits on Aurora Street in Lancaster, just outside Buffalo. A viewer recommended it on review.pizza. Joe had tried Leo's before at the Seneca Street location and wanted to see how this one compares.
The order
Joe ordered a large cheese pepperoni. It's a 17-inch pie, not 16 and not 18, and it cost $21.74 thanks to a March special. It came out nice and greasy, with grease pooling in the cup and char pepperoni and a plastic pizza table in the middle. The cut needed a little help.
First bite
Right away Joe got a pillowy crust and some herbs, with flavors that weren't fighting each other. He called it some of the softest crust he'd had in a while, in a good way.
Crust, sauce, cheese and toppings
- Crust: Medium thickness. The underside sat between light and medium browning. The outer crust was crunchy and delicious. Joe called it money.
- Sauce: A more tomatoey flavor, not super strong or thick. It was Joe's favorite part of the pizza and one of the best sauces he'd had in a while on this side of the border.
- Cheese: Great, the way Joe has come to expect around Buffalo.
- Ratios: Bang on.
What would make it better
Just a little more cook underneath.
The verdict
Joe couldn't remember the details of the Seneca Street Leo's, but he said he won't soon forget this one. With snowmen out in the springtime, he gave it an 8.8 for the crunchy outer crust and a fantastic sauce.
