La Nova Pizzeria on West Ferry Street in Buffalo is one of the most recommended places on the planet, and probably the busiest pizzeria Joe had ever seen. People everywhere.
The order
Joe ordered a large cheese pepperoni for $31.52. It's not a 16-inch, it's one of their 17-inch pies, with lots of cheese and lots of pepperoni. They were so busy the cut had trouble, and Joe had to hunt for a slice that was cut through.
First bite
There's more cheese on here than anything. It's saucy, on the soft side, with a little grilled cheese style cook to it. Joe called it a screaming Buffalo pizza.
Crust, sauce, cheese and toppings
- Crust: On the soft side, with good flavor.
- Sauce: Nice, but taking a back seat to the cheese.
- Cheese: Everything. Joe joked you get about six or seven pounds of it for 31 dollars. If you're into cheese, this pizza is for you.
What would make it better
More cook. Joe hated to say it, but maybe a little less cheese so it can cook through.
The verdict
La Nova makes a good pizza, and the place is bumping. Joe gave it a 7.8 and would love to eat it again cooked a little more.
