Joe has tried John's Pizza & Subs before, but never this Niagara Falls Boulevard location in Tonawanda. He ended up calling it his favorite John's.
The order
Joe ordered a large 16-inch cheese pepperoni for $25.76. It has some weight to it, with pepperoni right to the outer edge. The cup and char looks hand cut and thicker.
First bite
Cheese flopping around everywhere. Cheesy and saucy, with herbs that give it flavor without being an overdose.
Crust, sauce, cheese and toppings
- Crust: Joe liked the cook.
- Sauce: Herby, maybe oregano and basil, with good flavor.
- Cheese: Joe says you do not get this kind of cheese in Canada.
- Pepperoni: Hand cut and a little thicker. Joe thinks there's a little spice in there.
What would make it better
Just a touch more cook.
The tomato spinach pizza
Joe went back for a 16-inch tomato spinach pizza at $33.33. It has sliced tomato, spinach, extra seasoning that Joe thinks is garlic, and no red sauce. The cheese pull is great, and it feels a little lighter than the cheese pepperoni. Joe is a tomato snob when they're out of season, but cooked on a pizza with spinach and garlic, he couldn't tell. He called it one of the best simple specialty pizzas he's had.
The verdict
This pizza is coming home with Joe. He gave the cheese pepperoni a 9.1, and the tomato spinach pizza a 9.0 bang on.
