John's Pizza & Subs is on Grand Island. Joe's Canadian credit card wouldn't work, so he paid cash.
The order
Joe ordered a large 16-inch cheese pepperoni for $25.76. They hand cut their pepperoni, and some of it cupped up nicely.
First bite
The ratios seemed money at first. It's a medium thick to thick pizza, and they're not scared of the sauce.
Crust, sauce, cheese and toppings
- Crust: Nice, though no crunch on the back.
- Sauce: A saucy son of a gun, and Joe likes it. He could taste oregano or basil.
- Cheese: A little light as he worked through it.
- Pepperoni: Not as crispy as he thought, but still charred, and the hand cut ones have excellent flavor.
What would make it better
More cheese could get it close to the top of the eights.
The John's House Combo
Joe went back for the John's House Combo, one of their customer favorites, at $33.33 for 16 inches. It has pepperoni, sausage, green pepper, onion, cheese and red sauce, and it weighs a ton. Joe liked the combination, the sauce and the sausage, which he called a decent one. But it was light on the cook, with some pepperoni still kind of raw. With this many toppings, it needed three to six more minutes in the oven.
The verdict
It's a solid pizza with good sauce and money pepperoni. Joe gave it an 8.2.
