Jet's Pizza on Delaware Avenue in Buffalo makes Detroit-style pizza, and a viewer recommended Joe try it. The box says they make their dough fresh every morning.
The order
Joe tried the Detroit-style cheese pepperoni. There were only two or three slices of pepperoni per slice. He went for a corner piece with a crown of cheese, and the cut needed a little help.
First bite
It looked good underneath, and the crust was nice right away. The sauce, Joe wasn't sure about.
Crust, sauce, cheese and toppings
- Crust: Fantastic. Joe said he's a fan of Detroit style for sure.
- Cheese: Nicely browned and crunchy. The crunchy cheese brings out an extra depth of flavor and is money.
- Sauce: The weak spot. Joe said it tastes like a heartburn type of sauce, and it pulls the pizza down.
- Pepperoni: Tastes pretty good on its own, but takes a big back seat to the crust on the pizza.
What would make it better
A different sauce and some cup and char pepperoni.
The verdict
It's a tough one, because the crust and crunchy cheese are really good. As it is, Joe gave Jet's a 7.3, but he says this kind of crust has tons of potential.
