Imperial Pizza Review – South Buffalo, NY
score
Imperial Pizza on Abbott Road is one of those South Buffalo spots people kept telling Pizza Review Joe he had to try. So he did, and it lived up to the hype.
The order
Joe ordered a large cheese pepperoni for $33.21, one of the pricier pies on the Buffalo list. But as Joe pointed out, you get a lot of pizza for the money. This thing is not shy on the pepperoni, with sauce running right out to the edge.
First bite
The pie was loaded so heavily that pepperoni nearly rained off the slice when Joe pulled it. The first bite was a mouthful of pepperoni, and the cheese stretched off the slice in long strings.
Crust, sauce, cheese and pepperoni
- Sauce: The star of the show. Plenty of it, with a little zip, and Joe said it tastes homemade.
- Cheese: Generous, with a big stretch.
- Pepperoni: There’s a ton of it, but Joe didn’t think it was the classic cup and char, and some of it seemed a little undercooked.
- Crust: The back bite, where the sauce and cheese crisp up against the crust, was Joe’s favorite moment of the review.
What would make it better
Joe thinks a crispier cup and char pepperoni with a little bite would push Imperial even higher. With the amount and flavor of the sauce, it would be a perfect match.
The verdict
Imperial Pizza isn’t cheap, but it’s big, saucy and satisfying, and Joe could see exactly why people rave about it. If you’re in South Buffalo, it belongs on your list.
