Hustler's Tavern is on Center Street in Lewiston. When the order was placed, they were asked whether they wanted Detroit or New York style, and the staff said Detroit for sure.
The order
Joe got a large Detroit-style pizza for $28.08. One slice looked like it missed its pepperoni, so Joe learned his lesson from past Detroit pies and grabbed a corner. They use a deck oven.
First bite
A nice cheese pull and nice browning. Crunchy on the outside.
Crust, sauce, cheese and toppings
- Crust: The shining star. Beautiful underneath.
- Cheese: Crispy and browned, with rich, deep flavor. The star of the show along with the crust.
- Sauce: Fantastic flavor, but there should be more of it.
- Pepperoni: Cup and char with good flavor, though one slice didn't get any.
What would make it better
More sauce and better distribution.
The verdict
Joe says Detroit style is working its way to the top of his list of favorite pizzas. This one was almost higher, but he bumped it down for the distribution to an 8.7. Still a fantastic pizza.
