Hunt Brothers Pizza is a gas station pizza on Grand Island. It even comes with a loyalty card, buy seven and get one free.
The order
Joe ordered a large cheese pepperoni, which looked like the only size, about 12 inches, for $13.40. It came with lay flat pepperoni and some seasoning sprinkled on top.
First bite
A wild cheese pull. It is better than Joe thought.
Crust, sauce, cheese and toppings
- Topping: The sprinkle on top is great. A little crunch, salty and full of flavor.
- Cheese: Really good. Joe says this gas station cheese beats at least half the cheese he gets in Canada.
- Crust: Not great. A little doughy, with a bit of a gum line.
- Sauce: Decent.
- Pepperoni: Joe's least favorite part. Not the worst he's had, but far from the best.
The thin crust
Joe went back for the same cheese pepperoni on a thin crust, also $13.40. It's cut more like a Detroit, with more sauce and an almost crackery crust. It's a little dry, but Joe liked the crunch better than the gum line on the first one. The cheese and the seasoning on top are the stars again. He'd change out the pepperoni and improve the crust.
The verdict
For 13 bones you're getting a meal in 10 or 15 minutes, and you can be back on the road. Joe gave it a 6.3, and the thin crust edged it at 6.4.
