Gino & Joe's on Main Street in downtown Buffalo makes a pie that's thinner than most Buffalo pizza but thicker than a New York slice.
The order
Joe ordered a large 16-inch cheese pepperoni for $23.38. The cut didn't go all the way through, and a big floppy slice smacked him with sauce on the way to his mouth.
First bite
Despite the injury, the pizza tasted better than Joe expected. It's saucy, cheesy and cooked well.
Crust, sauce, cheese and toppings
- Crust: Medium thickness, cooked well underneath.
- Sauce: Nice, with plenty of it.
- Cheese: Fantastic. Joe says the cheese in the States is something else.
- Pepperoni: Not cup and char, and hard to taste under all the sauce and cheese.
What would make it better
A better cut, and Joe was hoping for cup and char.
The verdict
Joe would definitely get Gino & Joe's again. He gave it an 8.3, and if it hadn't slapped him in the face, it would have scored higher.
