Galassi's on Payne Avenue in North Tonawanda has been in business about 50 years, and it takes an old school approach to pizza.
The order
Joe ordered a large 16-inch cheese pepperoni for $23.22. It was sealed for freshness and came with lay flat pepperoni instead of cup and char.
First bite
It's thinner, a little like New York style. Floppy and delicious, and Joe really liked the sauce right away.
Crust, sauce, cheese and toppings
- Crust: Thinner, with a little crunch on the back. The back bite gets a little doughy, which was the one thing holding it back.
- Sauce: Something special. Not sweet, mellow, and Joe guessed they add olive oil.
- Cheese: Fantastic, greasing up into the sauce.
- Pepperoni: Lay flat and good. Joe wasn't sure cup and char would even help, since the lay flat works with everything else.
What would make it better
Just a little help on the back of the crust.
The verdict
It's a nice change of pace for the area. Joe called it fantastic and gave Galassi's an 8.4.
