Fatman's Pizza is on Niagara Falls Boulevard in Tonawanda. A customer who recognized Joe on the way in told him it's a thinner crust with a sweeter sauce.
The order
Joe ordered a large 16-inch cheese pepperoni for $26.90. It was not shy on the cup and char, and the pizza table actually says pizza on it.
First bite
Hot out of the deck oven, with cheese sliding off. Joe was not letting that bite get away.
Crust, sauce, cheese and toppings
- Crust: Medium thickness, almost bakery style. Joe liked the cook on the back outer edge.
- Sauce: A touch sweet, but not crazy. Joe has definitely had sweeter.
- Cheese: Joe says the cheese in the States is unreal.
- Pepperoni: Really nice flavor, and the cup and char crisps up nicely.
What would make it better
Joe was expecting a thinner crust, and just a little thinner would help. But it's cooked really well for its thickness.
The black and blue burger pizza
Joe went back for their November special, the black and blue burger pizza, a 16-inch at $38.50. It has chopped up burger patties, blue cheese drizzle and crumbles, onions, mushrooms and bacon. Joe worried it would be too crazy. It's crazy, but not too crazy. The blue cheese comes through with the onions, the mushrooms add moisture, and the beef tastes like real burgers. He liked it better than the pepperoni pie.
The verdict
It's a good solid zaza that's cooked well. Joe gave it an 8.3, and the burger special beat it.
