The order
Joe ordered a large 16-inch cheese pepperoni, done in a deck oven, for $21.20. While he was inside, the staff told him they knew he likes cup and char, and this pie has Ezzo cup and char pepperoni, which Joe does like.
First bite
Nice medium browning underneath, and a good ratio of sauce to cheese to pepperoni right from the first bite.
Crust, sauce, cheese and toppings
- Crust: Just below medium, toward thin, and all crunch. The outer crust was Joe's favorite part, for how well it was cooked and how the flavor came together with the rest.
- Sauce: You can taste the tomato. It's not over rich and not crazy sweet. It has some herbs but isn't too potent.
- Cheese: Fantastic, and dripping grease.
- Pepperoni: Ezzo cup and char with a more distinct flavor. Joe noted Ezzo does small batch.
What would make it better
If it was just cooked a little bit more, it would be a great pizza.
The verdict
Joe said it almost reminded him of Joey's Pizzeria in Port Colborne way back in the day. He gave it an 8.7 and said D'Agostino's has the makings of a damn near perfect pie.
