Brick Oven Pizzeria & Pub Review – Grand Island, NY
score
So many people told Joe to try Brick Oven Pizza on Grand Island that he doesn't know why it took him so long.
The order
Joe ordered a 16-inch cheese pepperoni for $27.49. With the toppings pushed almost to the edge, it looked like a Picasso's pizza to him.
First bite
That's a legit pizza. Joe didn't see any magic dust, but it tastes like there might be some sprinkle on top.
Crust, sauce, cheese and toppings
- Crust: Medium thick and soft, from fresh dough. Joe expected more crunch on the back, especially with the name.
- Sauce: A little sweet, not too crazy.
- Cheese: Fantastic.
- Pepperoni: Charred cup and char. If you think that's burnt, Joe says you're crazy.
What would make it better
Just a little more cook. With more crisp on the back crust, it would have been pretty close to a nine.
The spinach feta pizza
Joe went back for a large 16-inch spinach feta pizza at $32.61, with a garlic base, spinach, feta, mozzarella and a little olive oil. He liked it even better than the cheese pepperoni, which he says doesn't happen often. The garlic and the salty feta carry it, and the dough is beautiful, just under medium thickness. It was a little less cooked than the pepperoni pie. More cook, chili flakes or some chicken would push it further. Joe called it the best pizza he's had on the island so far.
The verdict
It's a Buffalo style pizza through and through, and a very good one. Joe gave it an 8.6, and the spinach feta scored even higher.
Ranking note: Best Pizza Buffalo ranks every pizzeria by Joe’s score for a standard pizza, so Brick Oven Pizzeria & Pub is listed at 8.6.
