Bella Pizza Review – Lackawanna, NY

Bella Pizza is on South Park Avenue in Lackawanna. Joe arrived about 20 minutes late because his order at the previous stop, Daniela, got messed up, so the pizza had been sitting a while.
The order
Joe ordered a large 16-inch pizza for $25.50, done in what he thinks was a deck oven. The cup and char looked hand cut and the distribution looked good. The sauce and cheese didn't go all the way to the edge.
First bite
Still nice flavor, even though it wasn't piping hot. Joe could tell it had been sitting, as the cheese was starting to firm up.
Crust, sauce, cheese and toppings
- Crust: Light browning underneath, a little light on the cook on the back. Somewhere between medium and thick, but Joe still called it medium.
- Sauce: A nice mellow sauce. The herbs don't punch out at you and it isn't sweet.
- Cheese: Starting to set from sitting.
- Pepperoni: Hand cut cup and char with nice flavor and a nice crunch.
What would make it better
Joe thinks it would have scored higher piping hot, though the light cook might have pulled it into the high sevens.
Going back for the chicken finger pizza
Joe went back for a specialty pizza. When he called, the woman on the phone recommended the chicken finger pizza and suggested blue cheese sauce instead of tomato sauce if he liked blue cheese. He got a 16-inch with medium chicken fingers. It had a nice golden color on top with light browning underneath. The blue cheese shines through, and Joe loves blue cheese, so she was right. The crust was a bit thinner than the first pizza. The chicken pieces were small, so he couldn't tell much about them or the medium sauce. Once again, Daniela's mix-up made him 20 minutes late, so it wasn't piping hot.
The verdict
Joe called this a good, solid pizza and gave it an 8.0 bang on, a fair balance between how it would be hot and the light cook. The chicken finger pizza got a 7.9.
