Alden Express and Deli Review – Alden, NY
score
Alden Express is yet another Buffalo area gas station, on Clinton Street in Alden.
The order
Joe ordered a large 16-inch cheese pepperoni for $22.85. It came with cup and char pepperoni and some darkening on the outer crust.
First bite
It's cheesy, cheesy, cheesy. Joe got a mouthful of cheese and didn't expect it to be as good as it was.
Crust, sauce, cheese and toppings
- Cheese: A ton of it, and better than Joe expected.
- Pepperoni: Cup and char that's nice and crunchy. Joe guesses they have a conveyor oven, but they charred it damn near perfectly.
- Crust: Medium thickness with a consistent golden underneath, a little soft. It could use more cook.
- Sauce: Not Joe's favorite.
What would make it better
More cook, and a different sauce.
The chicken finger pizza
Joe went back for a large 16-inch chicken finger pizza, about ten dollars more than the cheese pepperoni. It's heavy, and they don't skimp on the chicken. But the breading is thick and the chicken tasted processed to Joe, and one back bite was dry. There's some blue cheese sauce in there, and his last bite with a chunk of blue cheese was decent. Someone who loves chicken fingers might like it more.
The verdict
Is it as good as a normal pizzeria? No. Is it good for gas station pizza? Yes. Joe gave it a 6.8, and if he's filling up and starving, he's game.
Ranking note: Best Pizza Buffalo ranks every pizzeria by Joe’s score for a standard pizza, so Alden Express and Deli is listed at 6.8.
